Wishing A Happy St. Patrick’s Day to All of Our Wonderful Readers

A few holidays have transformed quite like St. Patrick’s Day.

It began in Ireland as a way to honour the country’s patron saint, but through both immigration and secularization, it has now become a worldwide day to pay tribute to all things Irish

Whether you’re looking to embrace your Irish roots or just want to don your greenest attire and have fun, you’ll have your pick of festivities this St. Patrick’s Day.

Across the world, cities large and small go all out for the occasion, offering everything from parades to quirky traditions, such as funeral parodies and sports tournaments.

We have been attending St. Patrick’s parades every year.

Not only because it is a fun event for a whole family to enjoy with various musical performances and dance groups attending the street parades, but also because March 17th is our anniversary day and Ericeira – who was actually due to arrive on St. Patrick’s Day, but decided to make an appearance a wee bit earlier – celebrates her birthday just a few days prior.

As Valters proposed to me on St. Patrick’s Day when we moved from Dublin to Sligo, he managed to turn that particular day into something special.

And what better way to mark all the wonderful occasions than by wearing the holiday’s signature colour, meeting up with friends and enjoying Irish music and marchers cladding in traditional attire?

*Did you know – one peculiar bit of St. Patrick’s Day lore involves the pinching of people who don’t have any green garments on.

Hope a bit o’ Irish luck and a bit o’ Irish cheer will snuggle down inside your heart and stay all through the year! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

  2. Saint Paddy’s was a big thing in US when we were there, this year we traveled from Genéve to Milan and didnt notice anything along the way, hmm. Maybe if we had visited the Irish pub we saw in Lyon it would have been different. Nice family and fun to you all.

    1. As is now tradition, Ireland Week usually takes place in Milan, from 10 to 17 March, with a photographic exhibition, clean-up activities, Irish food and movies, and Gaelic football. There are numerous St Patrick’s Day-themed events taking place in Rome ahead of the day itself. Also, Piazza Lucio Dalla in Bologna will turn green and from 16 to 19 March will welcome a show made of music, dance and lots of good food.

As the USA loves to go big or go home when it comes to celebrating St Patrick’s Day, I’d love to experience the celebrations in one of the biggest cities especially New York which is an iconic place for having many people with Irish connections. Thanks for stopping by. Wishing you all the luck o’ the Irish this St. Patrick’s Day! Aiva 🙂 xx

    1. Thanks so much 🙂 We stumbled upon each other by pure serendipity in a small town North of Dublin when I was just 20 years old, shared a kiss and the rest, as they say, is history. May luck be on your side this St. Patrick’s Day! Aiva 🙂 xx

  3. Happy St. Patrick’s Day and anniversary #22 to you and Valters. That is a great story Aiva and an easy way to never forget your engagement and wedding days. Now, I’m off to do some green garb, so I don’t get pinched. Enjoy the day. Allan

    1. Thanks so much, Allan. It’s lashing rain which is not that good for watching the parade, but we are still having a great time celebrating and marking all the special occasions! May your troubles be less. And your blessings be more. And nothing but happiness comes through your door. Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Aiva 🙂 xx

    1. I hope people had fun attending and taking part in the parade in Philadelphia. Dublin city was packed full to the brim, so we decided to stay in Sligo where it’s much more quieter. Thanks for stopping by, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

  4. Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you and your family, Aiva! Even more perfect that you’re in Ireland to celebrate. Here in the US, we do celebrate it (especially in Chicago, where the river is dyed green for the holiday), but honestly, most people use it to get drunk, haha. Have a wonderful celebration, and stay safe!

    1. Thank you kindly Rebecca and sorry for such a late reply – just found your comment in a spam section. I love celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and seeing how the Irish honour their patron saint. There are live musical performances, street theatre, children’s activities, science and art shows, incredible stunt performances, and lots of food! Thanks for stopping by, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

    1. Thanks so much, Christie, we had a great day out. I find pinching funny, too! Here, celebrators punish those who aren’t wearing green by giving them a pinch, as the story goes wearing green makes one invisible to Leprechauns. Therefore, someone not wearing green can be seen by them and is susceptible to a pinch. Thanks for stopping by, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

  5. It’s a great idea to have made Saint Patrick’s Day a part of your life. For me, I had chosen to leave Ireland that day to make sure I remembered it; It wasn’t all a good idea as some streets were closed for the parade, but I made it to the ferry at the end.St. Patrick’s Day remains a special day for me wherever I am in the world.

    1. That’s a wonderful story and an easy way to remember when exactly you left Ireland. It must have been a surreal feeling leaving Ireland on such a significant day especially as everyone else is eager to be in Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day. Thanks for stopping by, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

    1. Thank you kindly. This year, St Patrick’s Day fell on a Sunday which means the bank holiday will be observed on Monday, March 18. This is good news for thousands across the country who will enjoy a long weekend as a result. Have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

    1. Thank you kindly. Over the last two decades, we haven’t missed any of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations as they are so much fun. We would usually celebrate by rocking shamrocks, enjoying some Guinness, watching a parade, pinching anyone who wasn’t wearing green and listening to Irish music. Inevitably, there was plenty of rain, too, but it’s never far away in Ireland. Thanks for stopping by, and have a good day. Aiva xx

  6. It’s neat that you have so much to celebrate on and around St. Patrick’s Day with your anniversary and Ericeira’s birthday. It would have been funny if Ericeira was actually born on March 17th. Hope you had a marvellous time celebrating!

    1. Thank you kindly, Linda. It rained quite a lot during the parade, but we still had lots of fun. St. Patrick’s weekend is a long weekend in Ireland with an extra day off work which is something pretty much everyone looks forward to. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you are enjoying every moment of motherhood. Aiva 🙂 xx
