Titanic Hotel Belfast Review – A Splendid Link To The City’s Rich Maritime Heritage

Last Updated on the 3rd of December, 2025

In this post, you’ll find everything you need to know about staying at the Titanic Hotel in Belfast & what to expect when you get there!

If you’re visiting Belfast and looking to delve into the city’s fascinating past and vibrant present, I couldn’t think of a better place to stay than the Titanic Hotel, as it’s one of the best hotels in Belfast for a trip to Northern Ireland’s capital city.

Half museum, half hotel, Titanic Hotel Belfast is housed in the former Edwardian headquarters of Harland & Wolff, who owned the White Star Line.

It is located right next to RMS Titanic’s tender ship, SS Nomadic, and the wonderful Titanic Belfast Museum, making it a rather special place to stay.

The hotel is steeped in history and has an immense amount of artwork and photographs on display that transport guests back to the golden age of ocean travel.

A Short History of the Titanic Hotel

Harland and Wolff was founded in 1861 by Edward James Harland and Gustav Wilhelm Wolff. The company was located on Queen’s Island in Belfast and specialises in shipbuilding.

At the time, Harland and Wolff had a workforce of 15,000 and 3,000 were employed in the construction of the Titanic.

The former Harland & Wolff headquarters in Belfast was originally built in 1886 but fell into disrepair when the HQ became vacant in 1989.

The building lay abandoned for decades until 2017, when a £5m renovation project turned the historic drawing offices into a unique boutique hotel.

The restoration work began in March 2016, focusing on repairing the damage caused by the building being empty for almost thirty years and restoring the heritage features.

A fourth floor was added, replicating the mansard roof that was there decades ago. New pavilions were added between the Drawing Offices, replacing what had previously been removed. The upper floors were turned into bedroom accommodation.

The result is nothing short of fantastical; the crafty workers skillfully combined the old with the new.

In addition to staying at the hotel, you can also visit six heritage rooms, including the office of former shipyard managing director Thomas Andrews, who died on board the Titanic in 1912.

Drawing Office Two  is a great place for lunch

The Magnificent Drawing Offices

At the centre of the hotel are the shipbuilders’ two original Victorian Drawing Offices, where more than 1,000 ships, including Majestic, Oceanic, and, of course, Titanic, were designed.

Originally, the Drawing Offices were built in 1885 when there was no electricity, so huge windows in the ceiling were designed to flood the room with loads of natural light to illuminate the draftsmen’s tables.

The first Drawing Office is now the hotel’s banquet hall, and the second one has been converted into a stylish cocktail bar that offers views of the Titanic Quarter.

It is characterised by a spectacular three-storey high barrel-vaulted ceiling where you can see flax flowers decorating the ceiling windows. This is a wonderful tribute to Belfast’s linen past, which was the city’s main industry before shipbuilding.

As you settle in for a bite to eat, make sure you check out the authentic interior features such as the Villeroy & Boch tiles that encircle the main bar – they are the same tiles used for Titanic’s swimming pool and first-class bathrooms!

Rooms at the Titanic Hotel

Once you check into one of the hotel’s slick, nautical-themed bedrooms, you can savour views overlooking Harland and Wolff’s iconic cranes, or of the famous SS Nomadic (RMS Titanic’s tender ship) docked near the hotel.

The hotel offers 119 rooms, all of which are stylishly decorated in a light grey and lemon palette. The corridors retain their original feel, as do many of the original meeting rooms.

The rooms are equipped with all the modern amenities for a wonderful stay, and you can choose from a standard double, a superior king room, an executive, a deluxe room, and a superior suite.

Whichever room you choose to book, you will also find thoughtful touches which turn a hotel stay into a delight.

There’s a coffee maker, fluffy towels, cosy slippers, toiletries in the bathroom and, of course,  a helpful note indicating that you only have to pick up the phone and contact reception if there is anything else you might find you need.

Some of the facilities of the Titanic Hotel Belfast:

  • 24-hour front desk
  • 2 restaurants
  • Daily housekeeping
  • Babysitting services

Where is the Titanic Hotel Located

The Hotel is located in the Titanic Quarter and is ideal for those visiting a number of attractions in the area.

It is right across from the Titanic Experience, adjacent to the Titanic/Olympic slipway and the Titanic tender ship SS Nomadic.

The battleship HMS Caroline is located just a short stroll away, and so is the Thompson Dock and Titanic Distillers, where premium Irish whiskey is made.

Nearby is also the SSE Arena Belfast and stained glass windows depicting some of the most iconic scenes from Game of Thrones.

The hotel is not so convenient if you wish to wander around Belfast city centre, as it is about a 30-minute walk away.

However, there are buses with a stop nearby and taxi services.

Our Family Stay at the Beautiful Titanic Hotel Belfast

In my humble opinion, the overall atmosphere of a great hotel should be evident from the moment you arrive.

The warm greeting we received at the hotel reception when we arrived on a late Monday afternoon gave us the pleasant feeling of being welcomed guests rather than just another booking.

Our family room at the Titanic Hotel Belfast was very spacious, had everything our family needed for a first-class stay, including a wonderful view of Titanic Belfast.

We had two double beds, a TV, tea and coffee-making facilities, a beautifully decorated and spacious bathroom with complimentary toiletries and more of the usual finds of a standard hotel room.

Breakfast was included in our room rate and was served buffet style, meaning we could choose whatever we wanted to eat.

Overall, it was one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in. As a Titanic fan, I loved all the educational references to the Titanic and couldn’t find anything to criticise about.

We loved wandering the halls and looking at all the historical pictures.

Breakfast and Dining Options At the Titanic Hotel

We didn’t experience dinner at the hotel, but during our stay, we did have a light lunch with a few drinks at the Drawing Office Two.

For a wonderful dinner, dine at the Wolff Grill. The hotel’s restaurant serves locally sourced steaks and seafood. Or, you could treat yourself to an afternoon tea.

If you want to have afternoon tea at the Titanic Hotel Belfast, you need to book in advance. You can do it via their website through their booking service.

Drawing Office Two Bar Opening Hours:

  • Morning Treats served from 9am to 12pm
  • Lunch served from 12 noon – 5pm

Art & Heritage Trail of Titanic Hotel Belfast

One of the best things you can do at the hotel is to learn about the history of the Titanic Hotel Belfast.

You can explore various heritage rooms with a free guided tour, which you can arrange at the concierge desk.

Or you can ask for a map from reception and embark on a self-guided tour.

It is worth taking your time to inspect the building to get a sense of what it would have been like to work there in the golden days of shipbuilding.

Special Features at the Titanic Hotel, Belfast

It is quite obvious that the architects have put a lot of thought and consideration into renovating the building.

In addition to rare historical photos, vintage posters,  passenger portraits and contemporary artworks, there are many other things worth looking out for at the hotel.

Make sure you check out:

  • Corridor of Power | See the beautifully restored senior management rooms. They include beautiful Edwardian-period architectural features.
  • Original Entrance Lobby | At the back of the hotel, you can find the original entrance lobby used exclusively by senior managers back in the day.
  • Heritage Staircase | The elegant Edwardian staircase is one of the most beautiful features of the hotel. We took the elevator to the top floor and walked down the stairs, admiring fabulous photographs and intricate details along the way.
  • Presentation Room | An exquisite room where the company’s latest designs and models were represented to wealthy shipowners

Insiders tip – Look out for drawers which say ‘Open Me’ to discover original artefacts from the White Star Line and Harland & Wolff archives.

*Good to know – Heritage rooms can often be used for various functions. Make sure the rooms are vacant before entering.

    1. Thank you kindly for your wonderful comment. Heritage rooms are a must-see, and I very much enjoyed touring them. It is a wonderful heritage hotel with a touch of understated luxury and solid service values! Every inch of the old building – the former headquarters of Harland & Wolff and their drawing offices where ships were once designed is quite spectacular, and has been perfectly restored to showcase the once magnificent design capability of the shipyard workers in Belfast. We even had the Titanic channel streamed on the TV in our room. Thanks for stopping by, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

  2. I was there last month! Great review of a fantastic place! We didn’t stay there, but stopped into the bar/lounge on 2 different occasions. Once just for a few drinks, and the other for drinks and lunch. Loved the history of the place, and also enjoyed the exhibits and the model of the Titantic.

Prior to our stay, we stopped by many times for lunch and always enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and many of the original artworks related to the famous ship. I loved setting foot in Thomas Andrews’ Office, who was the naval architect in charge of the plans for the ocean liner Titanic and walking up and down the Heritage Staircase. That’s exactly what we did – we spent a few hours slowly combing through the hotel’s many heritage rooms, hacking out the old photos and learning more about the magnificent ship and passengers as the sinking of the Titanic resulted in many stories of both survival and loss, capturing the diverse backgrounds and experiences of the passengers and crew. These stories highlight the range of class, nationality, and personal circumstances of those on board, from the wealthy socialites to the immigrant families seeking a new life. Thanks for stopping by, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

    1. Thank you kindly. We could not ask for a better place to stay in Belfast. The people who work at the hotel were amazing, and our room had unbelievable views of the museum.

By now, I’ve been to the museum and the hotel many times, and it always amazes me how, after all these years, the Titanic still continues to captivate people worldwide due to its unique blend of tragedy, human drama, and the sheer scale of the disaster.

I suppose that the sinking of the “unsinkable” ship, despite being a tragic event, can also be seen as a cautionary tale about overconfidence in technology and the human capacity for both heroism and fear.

  12. The Hotel Titanic seems to me a good idea to accompany the striking effect of the visit to the museum. I saw the museum being built and I’m glad I was finally able to visit it during my last stay in Belfast. Even knowing the story of the Titanic, it’s hard not to be overcome by emotion. I’m guessing that staying in the hotel next door afterwards must keep that emotion alive.

    1. I’ve been to the museum many times, but was very keen to explore it once more, especially after it underwent a multimillion-pound refurbishment a few years ago. Now,  there’s a very impressive, illuminated 7.6m scale model of the RMS Titanic and new artefacts, offering a more immersive and emotive experience. One of the new galleries focused on different aspects of the ship’s story, including the hopes and dreams of passengers, and there wasn’t a dry eye among the visitors as it was an exceptionally moving experience. You can easily spend hours exploring its many rooms and learning about the history of the famous ship. There’s the crisply restored wrought-iron staircase, the telephone exchange which received word of the ship’s sinking in 1912, and the offices of Thomas Andrews, among others, now laid out as ‘heritage rooms’ for meetings and events.
