50 Fantastic Travel Blog Post Ideas For When You Are Stuck at Home

Last Updated on the 27th of February, 2024

Inspired by the beauty of the world we live in, we are travellers and dreamers, just like many of our readers.  In addition to travelling, we also take delight in blogging and communicating with our readers through storytelling.

Although the mere thought of sharing your story on the internet can be daunting, it’s an amazing experience itself and whether you wanna write about your fondest travel memories or open up about a compelling tale of triumph, the process can be both healing and liberating at the same time.

We love waking up in the morning and thinking about a specific blog post we want to craft.

Sometimes it’s a painless process; motivated and inspired by the latest article or a travel-themed book we’ve just finished reading, the words flow unstrained, and other times blogging is challenging, and we experience a creative slowdown.

Ever since we started travelling and blogging, we began to compile ideas for different travel blog posts. I have always wanted to transfer them from my travel journals (yes, I’m an old-school traveller who still carries around multiple notebooks and pens wherever I go)  to a digital form to have them all in one place. Given curfew conditions and additional free time, I’m accepting the challenge to willingly comb through my scribblings.

    1. Thanks so much! Once in a while, we all get stuck for ideas on what to write on your blog. Especially now that everyone is living in isolation, it can be a little bit harder to find new ideas and even to be inspired. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you had a lovely Easter. Aiva xxx.

      1. Thanks so much, Mark. Due to the pandemic crises, we haven’t been anywhere for the past 16 month, but there are still many travel-related things I (and those stuck at home) can write about. I hope all is well. Take care πŸ™‚ Aiva

  1. I see opportunities for you to link back to full pages about these subjects! I love that so many people bother to share their experiences with travel by blogging and sharing photos – love those photos. If I traveled, and were planning a visit, I already have some favorite blogs to reference. I can’t imagine you have left anything out here.

    1. Thanks so much, Pam. It’s easier to write about things to do or see in a specific city than to craft blog posts and provide useful travel information on how to travel with kids or what to pack for a winter destination. So, I am challenging myself and planning to write different posts and provide travel tips and advice. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you had a lovely weekend. Aiva

    1. I know, Allan, same here. We don’t know what’s going to happen, but I hope that at some stage well be able to go back to travelling. My last holiday was in July when we went to Latvia to get married, so it wasn’t a relaxing time with lots of sightseeing, there was hardly any at all. That’s why I was looking forward to our 2-week vacation in Scotland. Fingers crossed things will go back to normal soon. Thanks for reading and have a good day. Aiva

But it was so great to see some of your ideas that matched mine (some already on the blog, some in my notes cause I too use good old notebooks). Perhaps I can use this post as an inspiration πŸ™‚ Great post. Thank you.

    1. I’ve been struggling with finding time too. I used to write blog posts while Ericeira was at preschool, but now with all of us living in lockdown and isolated at home, it’s more challenging to do that. As our lockdown has been extended for a further three weeks, I am figuring out how to stay on task in a new environment that may not lend itself to productivity. Thanks for stopping by and stay safe. 1. Thanks so much, Lori! In a few months, I’ll be running out of things and trips to write about because I happened to drop my external hard drive and don’t even know if I can recover any of photos on it. After all, all the repair shops are closed due to coronavirus. Thanks for stopping by and stay safe. We are still learning to adjust to these crazy new living condition and hoping to be back on the road at the end of the year. I miss my family and friends and can’t wait to visit my sister in Dublin. 5. Great ideas! I’ve gone through periods of writer’s block before, and I can understand how that makes it hard to continue one’s blog. Thankfully, with the pandemic going on at the moment, I have plenty of time not just to think up new post ideas, but also to execute them. I have enough ideas to write that should take me until September…and hopefully then, I’ll have even more to take me until next year! Wishing you the best with your blog. πŸ™‚

    1. Hi, Rebecca! I’m glad you’ve got plenty of time and places to write about. I dropped my external hard drive (my heart nearly stopped beating at that moment!) a while ago and can’t do anything to recover photos from our previous trips as all the repair shops are closed due to the pandemic. And I am still trying to master writing posts while under quarantine with my four-year-old toddler demanding around-the-clock attention, but I am slowly getting there. Thanks for stopping by. 9. Wow! Aiva, this is a fantastic article, so complete, so informative, it’s like a tutorial or a college class! Love it! You are a very deep person with profound thoughts and the love you’ve for travelling allows you to live what you really feel and who you really are. As you say, you meet like minded people, you see interesting things and you collect incredible memories, something no one can ever take away. I love the line with which you started this post: “Inspired by the beauty of the world we live in, we are travellers and dreamers…” so true, my friend, so true. I cannot wait for the world to go back to normal again so that we all can take up our travels and journeys once more in peace and without fear. It is very difficult to coexist with this virus! I hate face masks, gloves, social distancing…we are Mediterranean people, we are used to hugging each other and kissing twice, one on each cheek and to tell us that we must stay one metre apart is torture, but we do it willingly and happily as it is a small sacrifice and it is for the better good and we always must strive to work for the better good. In any event, wish you health and well being and stay home, stay safe (for now)…All the best my friend,
    Greetings from recuperating Spain,

    1. Thanks from the bottom of my heart, Francisco, you make a world of difference to me by leaving a real, authentic piece of praise, here on my little corner of the internet.

You certainly are one of those fantastic people who can support other bloggers while chasing your dreams. Not everyone can take a moment to encourage others and lift them, and I am delightful our paths crossed.

I find it challenging to coexist with the virus too. Not being able to see, hug and kiss our friends and family is real torture. Looking after my and my families mental health and dealing with a wide variety of emotions on a daily basis is a tricky task. And so is trying to explain to four-year-old toddler over and over again why she’s not allowed to see her friends. That’s why I don’t mind doing my part and staying at home to flatten the curve.

Thanks for stopping by my friend. Have a lovely evening. Aiva

      1. Aiva you are a jewel and a very special person. It is my pleasure as I find such delight in your work, in your family’s work and learning so much from your beautiful articles and photography! I only hope that this situation ends soon. I know it is hard on adults but I really pray for the little ones who do not understand but must comply wondering. It is unfair to them, but who are we to decide? We have to obey and wait. I hope you and your family remain safe and happy. This will end, things will become normal again, one way or another, although the world will be a little different for a while things will go back to normal. I remember learning in chemistry that all systems seek homeostasis… take good care and stay safe, it’s difficult but a worthy sacrifice. All the best and a big hug from my little corner of the Mediterranean πŸ™‚

One of the best tips comes from Toni Morrison is “Write at the edges of the day.” which means getting up before everyone else does, let’s say around 5 am. Of course, I could write after everyone’s gone to bed, but I’m not a night owl, and I love my sleep too! So, I’m still trying to come up with a decent enough schedule.

Thanks for stopping by and have a good day. Aiva

    1. I’m glad you found this post useful. Writing about our previous trips and planning future ones are a couple of ways to keep me sane during isolation. Thanks for reading and have a good day. Aiva

  11. I like that you organized these travel questions by category. I might add another one more category. According the philosophy of my blog, you don’t have to travel far or maybe even at all to enjoy the spirit travel. I’m going to pursue that angle more in the future.

    1. I agree with you! Wanderlust doesn’t necessarily have to include a lot of wandering. There are, of course, a lot of good reasons to take an international holiday: hiking in Patagonia, drinking coffee in Paris, or visiting orangutans in Borneo all make for an exciting itinerary. But flights are growing increasingly expensive, and people often forget how much beauty is within 100 miles from where they live. We spent the last two years exploring Ireland with a campervan and along the way, had the best time ever. Thanks for stopping by and have a good day. Aiva

  12. Inspiring post and lovely images! When I’m feeling uninspired, I like to look back through photographs from past trips. Always seems to spark something.

    1. Thank you very much! That’s what I do too. Remembering previous adventures and seeing everything through photos gives me en endless dose of wanderlust. And I usually find lots of unused photographs I can incorporate in travel posts. Thanks for stopping by and have a good day. Aiva

  13. What a wonderful post. In these days of self-isolation and no travel, I love coming back here to remind me of the joys of seeing the world, getting out there, and meeting people… even at a socially responsible distance. Thanks!

    1. The joys of seeing the world and not knowing what you will meet along the way are what I miss, but while restrictions are in place, there’s not much we can do. Writing about our past travels, and being thankful for every single memory, is what keeps my sanity in control. Thanks for stopping by and taking time to write such encouraging comment, it’s very much appreciated, Daniel. Have a good day. Aiva

    1. I know! We love travelling around the world, but unfortunately, it’s not gonna happen anytime soon, so we are excited, when it’s safe, to explore Ireland and its rugged coast. That should be fun. Thanks for stopping by and have a good day. Aiva

    1. Thank you! I am glad you found it useful. Writing a blog is fun, but once in a while, when we are stuck in a routine or can’t figure what to write about, it’s good to have a list of new subjects to talk about. Have a good day. Aiva

    1. Thanks so much! For anyone who loves to write and loves to travel, living on lockdown doesn’t come without its challenges. But you can still devote your time to travel writing when you are not travelling. You can write about places you’ve already been to, spend time building your network, create portfolio or write about your local town. Thanks for stopping by and have a good day. Aiva xxx

    1. Thank you very much. Sometimes content marketers have to dig deep to keep the ideas and creativity flowing constantly to ensure consistent traffic, leads, and engagements. That’s why we wanted to make a list of posts everyone can effortlessly create in times when there’s so little traveling. Thanks so much for stopping by and have a good day. Aiva

    1. Thank you! I usually get most of my blog post ideas while reading other posts and thought it would be a good idea to keep them in one place, that’s how this blog post was hatched. Take care. Aiva

  14. These are great ideas, I have like two journals and one notebook and pen I use for writing thoughts and ideas down or day to day things and or ideas and possible blog posts as well in those. I also use the notes on my phone as well for ideas and thoughts when I am working or on the go and can’t get to my notebook.
Thank you for these ideas, I’ll have to use these ideas to come up some more ideas that could work and get the writing flow going.

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by, Jessica. I won’t leave the house without my pens and travel journals. A journal is a great way to write what you did, but it’s also so much more than that – it’s a place to break out and get creative. I loved devoting a few minutes to writing down my thoughts and various ideas for my blog, this way I can easily avoid staring at the blank Word Press page for hours on end. Thanks so much for stopping by and have a good day. Aiva

  15. Aiva, your posts, and your photographs are so well crafted and inspiring.
I totally agree that there’s more to travelling than collecting stamps & miles…
    There are so many great ideas here – I’m sure we are all so looking forward to exploring again;
whether it’s a far flung trip, or something more local to home.

    1. Thanks so much, Emma! One of the things I’ve learned about running a travel blog – you don’t actually have to be a full-time traveller. If you are on a budget, strapped for time, or just can’t travel as much as you’d like to, exploring your city really is the most valuable thing you can do to find content for your travel blog! But as much as I love living in Sligo, exploring it and writing about it, I can’t wait to travel again. Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely day. It’s finally nice and sunny in Sligo πŸ™‚ Aiva

      1. I think so many feel the same, Aiva! I think this time has helped us all to appreciate our local area more, as we have perhaps looked more closely about it. But wonderful, too, to learn about and enjoy other environments … what a great world we live in – so much to learn and discover! A red sky here this evening, so that bodes well for tomorrow too!
